Volleyball Wins Both at LMC Quad
The Southwestern Michigan College Volleyball Team had a great day at the LMC Quad on Saturday. The Roadrunners went 2-0, sweeping Olivet JV 25-12, 25-11, 25-15 and then doing a reverse sweep against Harper winning in 5 sets 21-25, 23-25, 25-17, 25-16, 15-9.
Sophomore Talan Hiemstra, SMC's service ace record-holder, added seven on Saturday, putting her over 100 for her career.
"Today was a great day and exactly what we wanted in preparation for our conference matches this week," said Head Coach Jenny Nate. "We knew Harper was going to be a tough match, and we were forced to face tough attackers and a big block, and we did a great job finding ways to score, changing up our offensive attacks, and putting up a big block which really challenged their hitters especially in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th sets. Our focus has always been on fast-paced game-like practices, but other areas we have really focused on this season are better nutrition for fuel, strength and conditioning, and total body health. The work has paid off because when we get into tough, long matches, and tournaments, we have better stamina and have better physicality in the long stretches. Our total focus is now on LMC and our match on Tuesday."
The Roadrunners are now 22-5 overall and 7-0 in conference play.
