Men's Wrestling Finishes #14 in D1 at NJCAA Nationals
SMC Men's Wrestling sent the maximum 10 wrestlers (one from each weight class) to the NJCAA National Championships in Council Bluffs, Iowa, last week. Two of them came back as All-Americans.
After winning the MCCAA for the fourth straight year and taking fourth place at the Great Lakes Districts on February 22, the team finished 17th overall at nationals (#14 in Division 1). Roadrunner sophomores Santana Ramon and Kaden Lapaugh placed well enough to earn All-American status. Ramon placed 5th in the 125-lb class, which gives him both National Wrestling Coaches of America (NWCA) and NJCAA All-American honors. Lapaugh was 7th in 133 for NWCA All-American honors. (The NJCAA recognizes only the top 5 placers for their record book.)
Recruiting is open now for the 2026-2027 team, and the public dedication ceremony for SMC's brand-new wrestling is scheduled for 10am on Wednesday, April 6, on the Dowagiac Campus.
