Cole Reitz Now A Roadrunner
Cole Reitz of Climax-Scotts High School has signed his NJCAA Letter of Intent to wrestle for Head Coach Todd Hesson and the Roadrunners.
Reitz was a two-time state qualifier and placed fourth in the state meet. He joins Cal Chapman of Dowagiac, teammate Logan Gilbert of Climax, Gavin VanKirk of Mason, Chaz Underwood and Mazzy Lambert of White Pigeon and Jayden Cochran of Miamisburg, Ohio, as the seventh signee in the 2025 SMC Wrestling recruiting class.
His high school coach said, "It is my pleasure to recommend Cole Reitz for admission to SMC and participate in the Wrestling program. As Cole's wrestling coach at Climax-Scotts High School, I have had the privilege of watching him grow as an athlete and as an individual. Cole has consistently demonstrated exceptional dedication, discipline, and sportsmanship. His accomplishments as a two-time State qualifier, placing 4th his junior year, wrestling at three consecutive Team State Finals tournaments, are a testament to his hard work and commitment to the sport. Cole is not only a talented wrestler but a leader who inspires other teammates and holds them accountable, not only in the practice room but scholastically as well. I am confident that Cole will be an asset to SMC's wrestling program. His passion for the sport, combined with a strong work ethic and determination, will undoubtedly make him a standout athlete at the college level."
Hesson added that, "Cole is a hard worker with a great work ethic! He loves to be on the mat and is looking forward to competing at the college level."
In 2024-2025, the Roadrunners again went undefeated in the MCCAA Duals Meet, earned the threepeat in the MCCAA Conference championship, defeated three nationally-ranked teams to win the Great Lakes District and qualify the maximum ten wrestlers for the national meet. SMC finished the season at #14 in the country and sophomores Colby Klinger and Nathan Andrina were honored as All-Americans.
On April 9, the college announced the construction of a new 11,195 square-foot wing of the Zollar Building that will quadruple the space available to the men's and women's wrestling teams. It will double the mat capacity for practice sessions and provide additional competition space for hosting conference and regional meets. The new facility will also include a dedicated fitness and warm-up area, coaches' offices, locker rooms and additional restrooms. On-site work has already begun, with a groundbreaking ceremony scheduled for May 2025 and occupancy targeted for February 2026.
