Zarya Sanford to Play for SMC
Zarya Sanford of Ecorse Community High School will continue her education and play women's basketball for the Roadrunners starting this fall.
SMC Head Coach Ariana Dampier said, "We are really excited to welcome Zarya to the family! She brings great length, athleticism, and versatility to our team. Zarya is not only a talented player on the court, but she is also a student-athlete who understands the importance of hard work and commitment. She finished high school with a 3.7 GPA, showing that she has the discipline and focus it takes to be successful at this level. We're excited to see her growth and the impact she will make on and off the court."
Sanford joins transfer Danai Childs of Detroit, Michigan; Kaylynn Taylor of Romulus, Michigan; Laila Collier-White of Racine, Wisconsin; Kinah Dyer of Hamtramck, Michigan; Olivia Howard of Haines City, Florida; Amaya Henderson of Oak Park, Illinois; Jayla Tyler of Chicago Heights, Illinois; La'Niya Willis of Plainfield, Illinois; and Jessica Thornton of Niles, Michigan, in the 2026 SMC Women's Basketball recruiting class.
Team members move to campus in late August, official practice begins October 1 and the 2026-27 season tips off with the traditional home opener at the Roadrunner Classic on October 30 in the 1st Source Bank Fieldhouse.
