Danai Childs to Transfer to SMC

Danai Childs of Osborn High School will continue her education and play women's basketball for the Roadrunners starting in Fall 2026.

Last season, Childs played in 23 games for the Lake Michigan College Red Hawks, starting 19 of them. She was the Red Hawks' third-leading scorer, averaging 9.2 points per game, 3.5 rebounds per game and 2.4 assists per game. Her season scoring high came on March 3, when she had 19 points vs. Grand Rapids Community College. Childs was named to the MCCAA Western Conference All-Freshman team and earned Western Conferece Honorable Mention honors for her 2025-2026 campaign.

SMC Head Coach Ariana Dampier said, "Danai joins us from within the conference, bringing experience that will make an immediate impact. A quick guard with the ability to score and create for others, her leadership will be a big piece of our success, and we're excited for her to be a part of it."

Childs joins Kaylynn Taylor of Romulus, Michigan; Laila Collier-White of Racine, Wisconsin; Kinah Dyer of Hamtramck, Michigan; Olivia Howard of Haines City, Florida; Amaya Henderson of Oak Park, Illinois; Jayla Tyler of Chicago Heights, Illinois; La'Niya Willis of Plainfield, Illinois; and Jessica Thornton of Niles, Michigan, in the 2026 SMC Women's Basketball recruiting class.
