Amaya Henderson To Transfer to SMC
Amaya Henderson of Oak Park, Illinois, will transfer from Davenport University to play women's basketball in 1st Source Bank Fieldhouse for the Roadrunners starting in Fall 2026.
Henderson is a 2025 graduate of Whitney M. Young Magnet High School. She played in ten games during her freshman season for the Panthers. Davenport is a member of the NCAA Division II Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, which includes Ferris State University, Grand Valley State University and Wayne State University.
Head Coach Ariana Dampier said, "I am excited to welcome Amaya to the Southwestern Michigan family! She's a great addition to our roster and brings something we really needed, size. She is over six feet tall so her height and ability around the rim will make an immediate impact on winning games. Coming in as a transfer from a D2 program, Amaya also brings valuable college experience. She's a strong rim protector, runs the floor well, and finishes effectively around the basket. We're looking forward to helping her continue to develop her game and getting her ready to excel at the next level."
Henderson joins Jayla Tyler of Chicago Heights, Illinois, La'Niya Willis of Plainfield, Illinois and Jessica Thornton of Niles in the 2026 SMC Women's Basketball recruiting class.
