Women's Basketball Corrals the Cougars

SMC Women's Basketball took a punch in the mouth of Saturday's tilt against the KVCC Cougars, finding themselves down 11-23 after Q1. But the game is 40 minutes, not 10, and Roadrunners never give up, even down a couple of players. SMC charged back to just a 3-point deficit at the half, kept battling and took the lead at 40-39 in the 3rd period. The defense clamped down and SMC won the game 61-55 to take sole possession of third place in the MCCAA West standings.

The Roadrunners were led by freshman Shiyah Forte, who had 18 points and 8 rebounds, freshman Rayvan Rush with 13 points and 4 steals and freshman Livy Robinson, who added 8 points with 4 rebounds. Sophomore Amara Palmer tied her own school record with 10 assists in a game, and in so doing became the new SMC career assists leader with 199 (and counting). She already holds the single season record with 119.

The women's cagers will have their hands full at top-of-the-table Lansing on Wednesday, February 19.
