Women's Basketball Collects 7 All-Conference Awards
In their first season back after a 26-year hiatus, the SMC Women's Basketball Team certainly grabbed some attention around the state.
The Roadrunners, an all-freshman team, finished with an 18-9 overall record, went 8-4 in conference, dominated at home going 13-1 in the 1st Source Bank Fieldhouse, and qualified for the Great Lakes District Tournament, losing in the first round on March 7.
On Tuesday, they collected seven individual MCCAA Western Conference awards:
- Tori Eldridge of Goshen, Indiana, was named to the MCCAA Western Conference All-Defensive Team.
- Eldridge and Ariana Lemons of Michigan City, Indiana, made the Western Conference All-Conference Third Team.
- Macey Laubach of Edwardsburg, Michigan, and Cameron Thomas of Hazel Crest, Illinois, were awarded Western Conference All-Conference Second Team
- Laubach and Thomas were also named to the Western Conference All-Freshman Team.
With only one first-year player (Nadia Collins of New Buffalo) graduating from SMC next month, the Roadrunners expect to return most of the squad for the 2023-2024 campaign.
