Women's Basketball Splits Rivalry Week, Now 10-0 in Fieldhouse

The SMC Women's Basketball Team lost at Glen Oaks, then soundly beat LMC to remain a perfect 10-0 in the 1st Source Bank Fieldhouse.

On Wednesday, SMC played the Vikings pretty even for the first two quarters and led at the half by a point. But the second half deteriorated fast for the Roadrunners, who found themselves down 13 after the third quarter. The final margin was 22 points. SMC had 27 turnovers and shot just 26% from behind the arc and just 34% overall from the field. Scoring was evenly balanced: Kamryn Patterson had 14, Macey Laubach had 13 and Cameron Thomas added 12.

The home game on Saturday was a different story as the Roadrunners jumped out to a 19-point lead at the half and kept pushing during the last two periods to beat the Red Hawks by 33. Macey Laubach was 12-19 for 28 points, Cameron Thomas had 14 and Ariana Lemons added 12. The team made just 19% from deep, but shot 46% overall in the win. Defensively, the Roadrunners forced 22 turnovers and held MCCAA Player of the Week and NJCAA D2 Player of the Week Arial Ford to just 15 points for the Red Hawks.

SMC is now 13-7 overall and 3-3 in the Western Conference. They host three more home games against Marian Ancilla, Kellogg and Kalamazoo Valley in the next two weeks as they defend their unblemished home record.
