Women’s BB Holds Off GRCC 53-52

The SMC women's basketball team played another streaky game on Saturday, but was able to hold off the Grand Rapids Community College Raiders 53-52 at the 1st Source Bank Fieldhouse.

Macey Laubach was the workhorse all day, going 7-12 from the field and 2-2 from behind the arc with a total of 18 points, including a half-court bank shot at the halftime buzzer to put the Roadrunners up by four at the break.

SMC pushed the lead up to 11 in the third quarter and headed into the fourth up seven points. The Raiders fought back through the final ten minutes, but the Roadrunners emerged on top at the end.

Cameron Thomas, who attracted lots of defensive attention from the Raiders, still managed to add nine points and cleaned the glass with 16 rebounds. Tori Eldridge also had nine points and added eight rebounds in the win.

SMC is now 8-4 and begins MCCAA Western Conference play at Marian Ancilla at 1pm on Saturday, January 14.
