SMC Women Add Two Wins This Week

The SMC women's basketball team went 2-0 this week with a decisive victory over College of DuPage and a squeaker versus Muskegon.

On Wednesday, November 30, the squad started out strong and never looked back, dominating the College of DuPage Chaparrals from tip to buzzer for a 37-point win. Macey Laubach had a double-double with 23 points and 10 rebounds. Cameron Thomas dropped 22 more. MCCAA Western Conference Player of the Week Ariana Lemons grabbed 10 rebounds and fell just one point shy of her own double-double.

Saturday was a bit different, with the Muskegon Jayhawks, who were picked to win the MCCAA Northern Conference, visiting the 1st Source Bank Fieldhouse. Despite a startling difference in free throw attempts (Muskegon shot 29 to SMC's 4), the Roadrunners beat the Jayhawks 67-59. A 14-point SMC lead evaporated in the third quarter, and the game became a back-and-forth affair until the Roadrunners hit some clutch shots down the stretch to put it away. Cameron Thomas had 19 points and 7 rebounds, Macey Laubach put in 14 points and was one rebound shy of a double-double, and Tori Eldridge added 12 points. Ariana Lemons grabbed 9 rebounds to go with her 8 points.

The Roadrunners, now 6-2, host the Henry Ford College Hawks on Wednesday at 6:30 in the final home game before winter break.
