Dontrel Taylor to Run for SMC
Dontrel Taylor of Three Rivers High School has signed his NJCAA Letter of Intent to run cross country for Head Coach Zac Sartori and the Roadrunners starting in Fall 2026. He will also compete in track and field for SMC.
Three Rivers Coach Jason Muckel said, "Kind, Strong, Composed, Resilient: all words that describe Dontrel Taylor and the amazing young man that he has become. It has been an absolute honor to have Dontrel as part of my program for the past four years and I have the utmost confidence that whatever he does in life, he will thrive beyond measure and impact the lives of everyone he comes in contact with."
Coach Sartori added, "As an athlete, Dontrel has learned to overcome challenges both within and beyond his sport, fueling his growth and success. I have been watching him these past few years and I am excited to see what he can do for the SMC Roadrunners. He has overcome so many obstacles and challenges and I am certain he will rise to those before him in the coming years."
Taylor joins Trent Hansen of Plainwell in the 2026 SMC Men's Cross Country recruiting class.
In Fall 2025, the Roadrunners finished the season ranked 16th in the country after competing in the NJCAA National Championships in unseasonably cold and snowy conditions at the Lakeside Golf Course in Fort Dodge, Iowa. Freshman Owen Saylor became SMC's 34th running All-American – and 69th overall - by finishing in the top 25 in that race.
