SMC Men's Basketball 1-1 at the Classic
SMC Men's Basketball lost the first game of the season, but won the second in dramatic fashion to finish the weekend at 1-1.
On Friday in the Roadrunner Classic at the 1st Source Bank Fieldhouse, SMC was defeated by Olive-Harvey, 97-81. The game was back and forth for the first 10 minutes, then the Roadrunners built a 7-point lead. But the Panthers adjusted and came right back to move ahead by that same margin at halftime. SMC closed the gap, but OH kept a 3-5 point margin most of the second half, before the game got away from the home team at the end. The Roadrunners were led by sophomores Anthony Brady with 18 points and Davion Goins with 17, and freshman Jovohn Ratliff added 13.
Saturday, in the final game of the Roadrunner Classic, SMC Men's Basketball grabbed their first win of the season over Kennedy-King, 71-68. SMC built a 9-point lead late in the first half, but the Statesmen closed to 4 by the break. The tally went back and forth on lots of runs by both teams the whole second period. With the score tied at 68, sophomore guard Damontae May drained a three with just 1.6 seconds remaining for a thrilling win for the Green and Gold. Goins and Ratliff each had 15, with freshman Deuce Weston pouring in 10.
