MBB Picks Up Two As Davis Hits 100

SMC Men's Basketball was a perfect 2-0 during Feast Week, winning home games by comfortable margins and earning Head Coach Rodell Davis his 100th win as a college head coach.

On Wednesday, SMC started the game with three long-range bombs and never trailed in the contest, defeating a scrappy CBG Prep squad 92-72 in the 1st Source Bank Fieldhouse. The Roadrunners were up 15 early and pushed the lead to 26 with about 2 minutes left in the first half before allowing the Tigers to run off seven straight points to go into the locker room with the score 52-33.

The second half got heated as the action got more physical in the lane and the crowd got more animated. There were some runs each way and offsetting technical fouls at one point, but the officials were able to keep things moving and the outcome was never really in doubt.

SMC was led by sophomore Aries Hull, with 20 points and 16 rebounds, his sixth double-double of the young season, going 12 of 13 from the free throw line. Sophomore Mark Williams was 4 of 6 from downtown for 16 total and added seven rebounds and freshman Davion Goins added 16 points and eight caroms.

Athletic Director and Men's Basketball Head Coach Rodell Davis earned his 100th win as a college head coach with the victory over Camp Battlegrounds Prep.

Coach Davis led teams at Laramie Community College in Wyoming and Kennedy-King College in Chicago before joining SMC in the fall of 2021.

On Saturday afternoon, SMC jumped out to an 8-0 lead on the visiting Alpena Lumberjacks, then after some back-and-forth runs, pushed the margin up to a dozen, going into the locker room at 32-21.

The Roadrunners found more success on the offensive side in the second half, and the Lumberjacks went cold from the field, allowing SMC to rebound, push the ball and convert regularly on their way to the 72-46 victory, sealing a 4-0 week for the women's and men's teams.

SMC was led by freshman Antwaan "Chick" Callahan, Jr., who went 3 of 4 from beyond the arc for a career-high 14 points, sophomore Kenji Ward-Sims went 3 for 5 from deep for his career-high 11 points and sophomores RJ Davis and Mark Williams each added nine.

SMC is now 7-3 and will prepare for a home contest vs. Prairie State on Tuesday, 12/3 (weather permitting!), then a back-to-back at North Central Michigan on Friday, 12/6 and Kirtland on Saturday, 12/7.
