Men's Basketball Drops Two This Week
After defeating the #2 South Suburban Bulldogs last weekend, the Roadrunners had a tough week, losing both games.
On Wednesday, in a battle between two unbeatens, SMC Men's Basketball came up a bit short and took their first loss of the season from Schoolcraft, 47-52, in the nightcap at 1st Source Bank Fieldhouse.
The Roadrunners found themselves down nine early in the first half, but worked their way back to trail by just one at the break. The teams were pretty evenly matched, had various runs, and were tied at 43. SMC took a one-point lead with 1:14 to go, but the Ocelots ran off the last six points for the victory. SMC was led by sophomore Aries Hull, who had another double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds. Hull was 6-11 from the field and 10-12 from the free throw line. Freshmen Chick Callahan and Gio Williams each had 6 off the bench.
Saturday, the Roadrunners travelled to Champaign, Illinois, to take on the #6-ranked Parkland Cobras, but were defeated 75-96.
The Roadrunners started the scoring with a 3, but the Cobras quickly responded and slithered ahead. SMC found themselves down 14 in the first half and headed to the locker room behind 38-48. In the second half, the Cobras proved too much to overcome, and the Roadrunners moved to 4-2 on the season. Hull again led the scoring with 17 points. Sophomore guard RJ Davis also scored 17, going 7-12 from the field, 2-4 (50%) from long range. Freshman guard Damontae May and Callahan each had nine points.
Next up is a rematch with the Andrews Cardinals on Tuesday, November 19, in the 1st Source Bank Fieldhouse.
