Men's Basketball .500 on the Week

Men's Basketball .500 on the Week

The SMC Men's Basketball Team won at home, then lost on the road this week.

On Tuesday, flipping the script from the last two games, the Roadrunners ran out to a 10-2 lead over Bethel University JV and never looked back. After a 44-26 tally at halftime, the Roadrunners buried multiple 3-pointers to pull away at about the 15:00 mark in the second stanza. The last ten minutes were marked by a lot of missed shots and turnovers on both ends, but much of that balanced out as SMC won by 31 and the result wasn't in serious doubt. Freshman Rodell Davis, Jr. led the Roadrunners with 18 points, going 6 of 9 from behind the arc and sophomore Nate Goins added 16 off the bench. Sophomore Mari Nichols poured in 13 and freshman Prince Adams had 12. Overall, SMC shot 47% from 3-point range and 82% from the free-throw line.

On Saturday, the team had a tough business trip to Chicago and dropped a game to the Kennedy-King Statesmen by the score of 76-64. Davis again led the Roadrunners with 20 points, Nichols had 16 and hit his lone long attempt, and freshman Prince Adams cleaned the glass with 15 total rebounds. However, the Roadrunners had 24 turnovers and shot 48% from the field and 33% from behind the arc, which wasn't enough to get by the Statesmen.

The Roadrunners are now 2-2 on the season and next face Andrews University in the 1st Source Bank Fieldhouse on Thursday, November 16, at 7:30 pm.
