Men's Basketball Earns 6 Conference Awards

The SMC Men's Basketball Team nabbed six All-Conference honors on Wednesday.

The Roadrunners, an all-freshman team, finished with an 15-11 overall record, went 6-6 in conference, had a winning home record at 9-5 in the 1st Source Bank Fieldhouse, and qualified for the Great Lakes District Tournament, losing in the first round on March 7. 

Those season-long efforts were recognized with six individual MCCAA Western Conference awards:

• Mark Williams of Chicago, Illinois, Mikel Forrest of Niles, Michigan, and Mari Nichols, also of Niles, earned All-Conference Honorable Mentions. 
• Sean Burress of Harvey, Illinois, was named to the Western All-Conference Third Team. 
• Burress and Nichols also made the Western Conference All-Freshman Team.  

As a new program, none of the first-year players are graduating this spring, so the Roadrunners expect to return most of the squad and add some key pieces for the 2023-2024 campaign.
