Men's Basketball 2-0 This Week

The Roadrunners boosted their record to 10-5 with wins over the Kellogg Bruins and the Grace Christian University Tigers.

On Wednesday, SMC completed the sweep in Cereal City over Kellogg by the score of 62-59. SMC jumped out to a 12-point lead at the break, but let the home team claw back into it during the second half. Kellogg briefly took the lead at 57-56 with 4:27 to go, but the Roadrunners kept their composure and nailed down the win with a Mari Nichols layup with two seconds on the clock. Sean Burress led SMC with 17 points, Nichols added 13 and Mikel Forrest had his fourth straight game in double figures with 11.

Then on Saturday, taking the floor first in a men's/women's doubleheader against the Tigers at the 1st Source Bank Fieldhouse, they took their time scoring their first points, but eventually found the bottom of the hoop plenty and won 84-66.
At one point the SMC lead was up to 21 points, but the Tigers went on a 10-0 run to cut the difference. The Roadrunners used Mari Nichols' double-double (21 points, 13 rebounds) and Mark Williams' 20 points off the bench to pull away. Nate Goins shot 6-8 from the field and 67% from behind the arc to drop in 15.

SMC is now 10-5 overall and 1-1 in the MCCAA Western Conference heading into a road game at Kalamazoo Valley Community College on Wednesday, January 25.
