SMC Men's Basketball Lags Early But Pulls Away Late in Debut Win
The SMC Roadrunners men's basketball team fell behind 0-6 out of the tip, but regrouped and pulled away late en route to a 70-49 win over Andrews University in their season opener at the 1st Source Bank Fieldhouse.
The home team shot 28-63 from the field (44.4%) and 8-30 (26.7%) from behind the arc. They were led by Mari Nichols, who had 27 points to go with 5 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 assists. Mark Williams had a double-double, dropping in 16 for the Roadrunners with 10 rebounds, 2 assists a steal and a block.
SMC held Andrews to 21 of 54 shots (38.9%) and only two 3-pointers out of 14 attempts (14.3%). The Cardinals were led by Caleb Braswell with 17 points, 6 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal.
